2011 Giant Twist Freedom DX

Giant's Twist Freedom DX offers the ultimate in electric/hybrid bicycle technology. From its push-button RideControl command center to its lightweight EnergyPak lithium-ion batteries concealed in handy panniers, this comfy commuter can conquer any distance. Set it to Sport, Normal or Economy mode, start pedaling in the back-friendly, upright riding position, and this smart bike does the rest. When fully charged and ridden in economy mode, the SyncDrive motor and batteries keep you cruising smoothly for up to 70 miles, and the included SmartCharger quickly recharges the bike so you're always ready to roll. Plus, there's a maintenance-free Shimano Nexus 8-speed internal drivetrain so you can pedal uphills and down, linear-pull brakes for excellent control, and nice commuting features, too, like fenders, a bell and rear LED light.

      Comments:

My husband and I bought the Giant pedal-assist bikes last year. I got the Twist Freedom that has the dual battery capacity. We couldn't be happier with them. The pedal assist has 3 modes depending on how much you want or need. I mostly keep mine in the Eco mode to just get me through the hard parts or when it is really windy. Otherwise, I switch off the pedal assist and go on my own power. Very easy to switch back and forth between the modes. It is much safer than an all-electric bike because if you don't pedal, there is no forward motion. Having the pedal assist lets me go farther and longer, going places I never would have been able to go without it and I still get a nice workout. I have also used it to go back and forth to work, which saves money on gasoline. My husband loves his even more. We have a 60lb dog that we take with us on long rides, and having the pedal assist makes it possible for us to take him along in his trailer.

        Comments:

I bought this bike in Shepherdstown WV. I just knew I needed some exercise and had not ridden a bike in 25 years. This bike is high quality and a whole lot of fun. I live in the city, so when I get off work its on the bike for a trip to the bank, or to eat. I think I will suprise my wife with one.

        Comments:

I am 58 years young and have always enjoyed being on two wheels. I own several different bikes but I enjoy this Giant electric hybrid the best. It's fun to ride, definately has that novelty factor, provides me with adequate exercise without any discomfort. It is heavy but I don't use it for calisthetics. Actually, the weight adds stability so I don't mind it.

        Comments:

Great commuting bike! I bought this bike to get back into cycling, I'm 54, a bigger guy and needed the exercise. I have a bum knee/leg so a regular bike was out of the question. This is wonderful. The motor could be a bit bigger, but it meets the Fed guidlines, so no complaint. I've riden it over 1600 mi this 1st summer. Lovin' it. Looking to buy my partner a woman's freedom.

          Comments:

I just received this bike and intend to use it mainly for exersize as I am 70 years old and cannot handle a regular bike for long. I found it to be a nice bike and handles well but the motor is not strong enough for grades, and requires too much rider input. However it does handle flat terrain fine and does what a bike should do, if you want to be in control.

Giant and Dealer Not Helpful At All

          By Unhappy Customer

          from Kansas City, MO

          About Me Casual Cyclist

          Comments:

The product itself may or not be good. I ended up returning the bike. It was special ordered by the dealer. The bike when first testing made a loud whining sound. I had to make a return trip to the bike shop the next day after some adjustments were made. Then I took the bike home and it didn't work. It needed a new computer board and throttle. Three repairs before even using the bike. The dealer and manufacturer refused to replace the bike with a new one. I had to pay a restocking fee to return the bike. I think for the price of the bike, the dealer and/or manufacturer should have been more accomodating. All they cared about was making the sale. My opinion of the company is not very high after this experience.

          Comments:

I just turned 65 and bicycle a lot in Chicago. It was getting harder and harder to continue the distances I was use to. The Giant DX is the perfect fix. I tried the Schwinn tailwind but you had to peddle three revolutions before the battery kicked in. Not a good idea in the city with frequent stops and startups.
